Fish Shop Eljas Santa was founded in Merikarvia, Krookka, in the late 1950s. Today, the fish shop operates in almost the exact location. The original smokehouse and fish processing plant are just around the corner.
We are open all year round, even on weekends. Our principle is to sell as long as we have some fish to sell.
We buy whitefish, perch, and pike-perch from the local fishermen. Baltic Herring also arrives on site. Wild salmon is a welcome catch, as the fishing season is short and strictly regulated by law.
The third generation of the Fish Shop Eljas Santa, welcomes you to come shopping alone, as a couple, or even with your work group.
Fish Shop Eljas Santa respects traditions when processing the fish. The original smokehouse, which operated at the exact location, is located in Merikarvia, famous for its fishing. Vilho Santa, Eljas’s father, founded his fish shop already at his time.
Elna’s wife was also very involved in the fish business. At that time, after the wars, the fish shop transported fish to the provinces and regularly delivered the catch to the customers’ homes. Eljas, Elna’s and Vilho’s son, later became the entrepreneur of the fish shop and thus continued his father’s work. Eljas’s wife, Sirkka, also energetically got involved in the company’s activities. Both are still going strong: A leopard can’t change its spots but here in the west coast of Finland we would say a herring can’t change its scales.
When the current entrepreneur, Timo Santa, was born in 1968, Eljas acquired new smoking ovens, which are still in use today. With the ovens, the fish shop got a further boost. Timo’s education as a fish processor guarantees the future. The young man’s career continued as his girlfriend joined the actions of the fish shop in the early 1990s. When the young couple married, the wife Mari took the name Santa and joined the fish business. The fourth generation helps now as seasonal aid in the fish shop.
